How to Use FocuXTE — For Hosts
This covers everything a host (teacher/professor) does on the site: publishing content, creating exams, and managing both afterward.
1. Publishing content
Go to Content. Fill in the title, choose a file (max 2.5 MB), pick the Department/Subfolder it belongs in, set a retention period (how many days until it's automatically deleted), and a start/end date-time window (when students can actually view it — separate from when it gets deleted).
After publishing, you'll see a management link — save it. It's the only way to delete that specific artefact early, before its scheduled auto-delete date. Anyone with that link can delete it, so treat it like a password for that one file.
2. Creating an exam
Go to Exams. Add questions manually (with a Remove button per row) or upload a filled-in CSV template — either way, a live preview shows exactly what students and answers will look like before you generate any links. Downloading the template and the exact column format are covered in the exam template guide.
Multiple choice questions need at least 2 options; the student sees them as a dropdown, not free text, so there's no typo risk in grading. Short-answer questions are never auto-scored — they're excluded from the score/total entirely and shown to you for manual review.
Set retention, start/end window (same rules as content above), and submit to generate two links:
- Student link — share this with your class.
- Host/results link — keep this one private. It shows live submissions and lets you download results.
3. Viewing results and downloading
Open your host/results link any time to see submissions as they come in, with each student's Name, Roll No., Batch/Division, and score. Two downloads are available:
- Scores (.txt) — one line per student with their total score.
- All answers (.csv) — one row per student, one column per question, showing exactly what they answered — open this in Excel to cross-reference any answer against its question.
4. Deleting content early
Use the management link you saved when publishing. Open it, review the artefact's details, and click Delete this artefact now — you'll get a confirmation dialog first, and the deletion is immediate and permanent.
5. A few limits worth knowing
- Retention period: 1 to 7 days (configurable maximum).
- File size: capped at 2.5 MB per upload.
- Start/end dates can't be in the past, and the window can't outlive the content's own auto-delete date.
